DEATH WARMED UP
Death Warmed Up explores a dark and precarious sound world. Created largely using the sounds of human voice, with notable exceptions - it is concerned chiefly with creating small intimate textures which are contrasted by abrupt climaxes.
Moving from abstracted material, to abstraction to highly semantic data the piece highlights subtle perceptual shifts in between structural sign posts.
Thematically the work is an impressionistic look at the ramifications of death. Drawing material from a string quartet piece I had previously written to memorialize the death of an important figure in my life, Death Warmed Up uses this material to delve into the long term emotional after effects of death.
